December Surprise!

Each December, I do something special. Normally, I try to catch up the badges that I failed to complete during the year. Usually, it’s 12-15 days of badges in the beginning of the month and I take the rest off so I get a break too. This year, I’m doing something a little different. I will still be posting once a day until the entirety of what I want to release is done.

With each blog post, you have seen supplements beyond those that go with the specific badge program. Just like badges, the supplements have categories. The reason is the number I am creating and the ones I have notes on for future creation. I would be completely lost if I hadn’t broken them apart.

Currently, there are over 1,400 supplements that go with badges. I stopped counting my “want to make” list when I hit 2,000.

Supplements have no tracking beyond the lists I make for myself. I realized that supplements could be used in a lot of ways beyond just the badges including activity boxes, challenges, meetings and events.

So, starting tomorrow, I’m sending out a new badge set . . . Enrichment Project Supplements. Each badge will feature a supplement category and give you information about the category and what is in it at the time of the badge release.

Our current supplement categories are:

You’ll notice some of the sections look a little light with the number of supplements. There are numerous reasons for this. I have plans for the future and haven’t quite gotten there yet, i.e., badge sets for Ornaments and Puzzles. Some are because there wasn’t a division when the badges went out and I need to revisit them, such as Color Fun. Also, I limit my time to working on a badge program to 10 hours a week normally . . . so sometimes I don’t get to the supplements if I do a lot of research.

In addition, there are three badges I wanted to release before this set came out. So, you’ll see badges for the following as well:

• Carolers
• Graces
• Sing Alongs

This all has to do with the UChoose PDFs I sent out into the web in 2006. More information for these is provided in the Grace Fun and Song Fun categories.

Before you ask, this is not all of the categories I intend to have. I already have three I plan to do when more badge sets are updated . . . Badge Fun (Girl Scout Traditions badge set), Event Fun (Event Planning badge set) and STEM Fun (Science Center badge set).
