Playing games with a large group can be difficult, especially when the playing pieces are small. I designed a six-sided die out of plastic canvas as a replacement for the small dice you normally purchase.
The best thing is they are soft. If the kids accidentally falls on the die, it will collapse. I’d rather remake the die than have someone hurt.
They stitch up very fast because the only stitching is the pips and edging. You need to remember to keep the two opposite sides equal to seven when you assemble them.
For younger kids, I’ve used the same design except I use colors instead of numbers. Plastic canvas comes in colors and you can do the stitching in the same color or use the same plastic canvas shown here and stitch with varying colors of yarn.
I also used the color design for making my own dice to work with one of the Project WET activities. This activity shows the kids the water cycled in a more visual way instead of the poster you normally see where the water always moves in the same cycle endlessly.
If you are interested in any of the patterns or the adjusted Project WET activity, let me know and I’ll put them on my “to do” list.
And, no, don’t ask how long my task list is.
