Knot tying is a great skill to have whether you’re a camper, boater or just want to put a tent up in your backyard. Start with tying knots and then make it into a relay race.

Materials:
- 3′ piece of rope per person
Steps:
Rope — Hand a piece of rope to every person. Show how to tie the knot and make sure everyone knows it.
Relay — Divide the group into teams.
Play ideas
- Run down to a piece of rope, tie it, get it approved and then return and tag the next person. The team that finishes first wins.
- Tie a specific knot and sit down, indicating they are ready to be checked. If they are all tied correctly, the first team wins. If not, the team has to figure out which one is wrong, fix it and ask to be checked again.
- Some knots can be used to tie ropes together, such as a square knot. Let your relay team tie their ropes together. The first team to tie them together correctly wins.
