I’ve been pushing myself so hard that I was concentrating on the small things, not the larger picture. So I paused all releases, reviewed where I was and aligned my priorities.
Girl Scouts: Service Unit Level
That said, I found that taking “down time” actually helped me to focus and get a lot done in the last month, especially planning. I’ve already volunteered to chair / co-chair three events for our Service Unit next year. Before March, we hadn’t done any since I started with my current SU. In March, my youngest asked if she could do a sing-a-long. She ended up with almost 20 Daisies. Even the leaders loved it. I’m glad we’re turning this around.
I’ve already run Juliette Low and World Thinking Day events, so while it’s a lot of work, I know what I’m getting into. The last is an outdoor skills / science day. I’ve got the science half and I’ve been looking at the naturalist badges.
Girl Scouts: Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana
During all this, I’ve been connecting more with my fellow Girl Scout volunteers through additional meetings and call-ins.
I’m learning about our Program Aide Training.
I’ve volunteered to head-up our “How to” corner that council has not had time to work on (been waiting for something for two years).
I completed the final proofs for both the Daisy and Brownie Self-Study Guides for my council. I was told the Junior is coming, but my contact retired a couple weeks ago, so I’ll see how that goes.
NANOWRIMO and Learning
I’ve also started taking art and craft classes again. It’s nice to have short, easily defined projects . . . unlike the Adult Enrichment Project which has been growing since the official launch in July 2010. Perhaps it’s the need to actually finish something that’s been bugging me.
For the Adult Enrichment Project
- Start creating / posting YouTube videos
- Get the AEP badges into Open Badge (Mozilla)
- Update the entire Girl Scout Traditions set to the new design
- Get AWeber working better
