A 7 Day Challenge gives you consecutive days to accomplish your challenge while being short enough to allow you to test out a challenge idea without putting a lot of work into it.
Steps
1. 7 Day Challenges.
A 7 Day Challenge allows you to try a challenge you’re unsure you can do for longer. If you’re not sure it’s something you want to put a lot of effort into your challenge, you can at least get a feel for how it will be and determine if you want to try it for a longer challenge. It also allows you to have a success with less work. A week is a short period of time to try something new. Pick a week to start.
2. Enrichment Project challenge.
Look through the listing of digital badges released as of May 2016. Could you earn one in a week? How about doing the basics and trying to do two or more during the same period of time?
3. Check out some challenges.
Not sure what you want to do? Check out the supplement “Challenge Possibilities” for some general ideas or one of the themed sets of ideas. If none appeal to you, grab your favorite search engine and find something that looks interesting.
4. Open-ended items.
Since this challenge is designed to test challenge ideas, develop a theme and select seven different items or do three twice with a review day at the end. You can configure your challenge as you wish.
5. Doing the same thing or something different.
Depending on your challenge, you might do the same thing or different things every day. For example, you might want to try walking 10,000 steps every day for a week. It is the same activity for multiple days.
You also might want to try starting an art journal and challenge yourself to make a page a day. You’re working on an art journal (the same thing) but you might challenge yourself to use different art techniques or mediums.
Of course, doing completely different things may sound more appealing. You may choose to pick seven different tasks and do a different one each day. This would be an interesting concept if you had six friends doing the 7 Day Challenge with you and each chose a day to show the others what they were interested in attempting.
6. Schedule.
You’re more likely to succeed if you plan your challenge. Scheduling the time makes it more likely you will do it. In addition, most people are more motivated in the mornings. Determine when it would be best to schedule your challenge activities.
7. Tracking your success.
Tracking your days is important. You can keep track on your calendar, use a planner or even print and mark up the tracking sheet that comes with this badge program. In addition, keeping notes on what works for you and what you struggled with can help you determine if the challenge you’re thinking about is actually for you or if you need something harder or easier.
8. Continue.
If you’ve enjoyed your 7 Day Challenge, up the stakes and claim it as a 30 Day Challenge. Are you willing to take the challenge?
9. Find non-participant support.
Even if you don’t have someone doing it with you, encouragement can make a huge difference. Discuss your challenge with your friends and family and ask for their support. You can share your activities in your favorite social media channel. You might even create a forum where like-minded people trade ideas and encourage each other.
10. Find a partner.
Sometimes a partner can help you complete your challenge. A spouse, significant other, roommate or co-worker are ideal choices as you often spend a lot of time with them. By having partner, you have someone to discuss difficulties with, find alternatives to things you’d rather not do and more. Find a partner who is willing to help you out.
11. Build a team.
Your team can be virtual or real. Ask yourself how a team might help you in determining your challenge, supporting you during the challenge and even brainstorming to make it better the next time you attempt it. In fact, you might want to add a little friendly competition to your challenge to make it more interesting.
12. Try more than one.
If you plan on doing a 7 Day Challenge together, why not do more than one? You can spend time with your partner or team and try things that interest each member. You may find something you love do to that you’d never thought of or even find elements of your life that aren’t as healthy as you originally thought. Everyone has a different view and this is a great way to share quality time with others.
13. Do it again.
If you’ve done it once, you can do it again! You can do the same challenge, a more difficult one along the same lines or even try something completely new.
