A challenge is a great way to learn something new, change your life or even as a social event. Depending on the challenge and the difficulty, you have many choices on the type of challenge for you to create. Hourly challenges allow you to work according to your schedule.
Steps
1. Why a 100 Hour Challenge?
A 100 Hour Challenge is great for a specific project. For example, a teenager might need service hours to report on a scholarship application. A social media expert may need training hours to maintain knowledge of the latest platforms. There might be a skill you want to master but haven’t had the time. What project do you need to spend some time on?
2. Enrichment Project challenge.
You could do 10 hours each on 10 different Enrichment Project badge programs to get knowledge to create your own event. Alternatively, you might want to choose badges to bring crafting or science into your meet ups. Check out the supplements below for a listing of all badges released as of May 2016.
3. Scheduling.
If you don’t schedule it, it won’t happen.
While the other challenges in this badge set are based on days or weeks and are supposed to be met consecutively, the 100 Hour Challenge is more freeformed. You can work to squeeze it around your busy schedule. You need to plan to do it, though. Determine when you will do your 100 hours. Put it on your calendar and follow through.
4. Check out some challenges.
Not sure what you want to do? Check out the supplement “Challenge Possibilities” for some general ideas or one of the themed sets of ideas. If none appeal to you, grab your favorite search engine and find something that looks interesting.
5. Build your own.
In addition to the challenge themes provided with this badge set, there are open-ended ideas so you can create your own challenge. Even if you don’t use them, look through them to get an idea of how varied you can make your challenge. You might choose to do one thing over and over like donating time to a local youth group or do a variety of tasks.
6. Tracking your success.
Tracking your hours is important. You can keep track on your calendar, use a planner or even print and mark up the tracking sheet that comes with this badge program. What works best for you?
7. Journal your success.
As you watch your hours pass, journaling your thoughts, feelings and physical / mental wellbeing can help you see where you’ve been and where you are. It is also a great piece to reference when your challenge is done.
8. Find support.
A partner or team can help you on those days you really don’t want to do it. Even if you don’t have someone doing it with you, encouragement can make a huge difference. Discuss your challenge with those around you and ask for their support.
9. Do it again.
If you’ve done it once, you can do it again! You can do the same challenge, a more difficult one along the same lines or even try something completely new.
10. Adjust the time.
For beginners, you may want to start with a 10 hour challenge. This is especially true if you are working with younger people with a shorter attention span. You can also adjust it so that you do an hour a day for a month, making it a 30 Hour Challenge or make it the ultimate challenge at an hour each for an entire year or 365 days.
